Skarzynska, Magdalena Beata published the artcileEffectiveness of surgical approach of insertion ventilation tubes (Tympanostomy) and adenoidectomy in comparison with non-surgical approach (Watchful Waiting Approach) in children at the age between 1 and 6 and who suffer from otitis media with effusion (OME) in 12-month period of observation-the retrospective analysis, Application In Synthesis of 23828-92-4, the publication is International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (2021), 18(23), 12502, database is CAplus and MEDLINE.

Otitis media with effusion (OME) is one of the most common diseases in childhood. The objective was to assess clin. the effectiveness of the surgical approach (tube insertion with adenoidectomy) in comparison with the non-surgical approach (watchful waiting) during a 12-mo observation period. This study was retrospective and obtained approval from the bioethics committee. The criteria of inclusion in the first group (surgical approach) were: (1) a diagnosis of chronic otitis media with effusion in children aged between 1 and 6 years; (2) their medical history showed that they had undergone adenoidectomy and tympanostomy with the insertion of ventilation tubes (VTs). The criteria for inclusion in the second group (non-surgery) were similar to the first group except that their medical history showed they had not undergone adenoidectomy or tympanostomy with the insertion of VTs. There were 422 children included in the surgical group and 50 children in the non-surgical group, and the period of observation was 12 mo. For the entire surgical group, the number of healthy days ranged from 20 to 365, with a mean of 328.0 days (SD = 91.4).In the non-surgical group, the number of healthy days ranged from 13 to 365, with a mean of 169.2 days (SD = 127.3). The difference in the number of healthy days was statistically significant (p < 0.001). The certainty of treatment in the first group was higher than in the second group, and the number of days without recurrence was significantly higher than in the second group. In the first group, there were 71 recurrences from 422 children (16.8%), and, in the second subgroup, there were 40 recurrences of acute otitis media (AOM) from 50 children (80%). The RR was 0.21. The surgical approach in children aged 1-6 years who have been diagnosed with otitis media with effusion is reasonable and beneficial for the child.

Salbutamol is a bronchodilator, Guaifenesin is an expectorant and Ambroxol is a mucolytic. Combination of these drugs is used in the formulation of cough syrups. In the literature, there is no method reported for the simultaneous estimation of the drugs in oral liquid dosage form. Hence, the present work is aimed to develop reverse phase HPLC method for the simultaneous determination of Salbutamol sulfate (SAL), Guaifenesin (GUA) and Ambroxol hydrochloride (AMB) in oral liquid dosage form and validation of the developed method. The chromatog. separation of the drugs was achieved with the mobile phase system sodium dihydrogen phosphate buffer pH 3.0: acetonitrile: methanol in the ratio of 65:10:25 with the flow rate of 1 mL/min and injection volume 10μL. An Inertsil C8-3 (250 × 4.6 mm, 5μm) column was used, and the detection wavelength was 276 nm. This system produced sharp peaks with good resolution, min. tailing and satisfactory retention times of SAL, GUA and AMB were found to be 3.157, 9.949 and 11.883 min resp. indicating the suitability of the system. The developed method was validated for various parameters accuracy, precision, linearity, robustness, and specificity as per ICH guidelines.

High mobility, stable and thick hole-transporting layer (HTL) materials are highly desirable for organic solar cells (OSCs). Two pH neutral conjugated polyelectrolytes (CPEs), PCPDT-T and PCPDT-2T, based on 3,4-dithia-7H-cyclopenta[a]pentalene and thienyl units with a self-doping effect were designed and synthesized. Between the 2 CPEs, the PCPDT-T exhibits higher, more homogeneous mobility and appropriate work function, which makes it an ideal HTL material for OSCs. The single-junction OSCs modified with the PCPDT-T HTL showed an outstanding power conversion efficiency of 9.3%, which is much higher than that of the PEDOT:PSS-modified devices (8.0%). Notably, the PCPDT-T HTL exhibits excellent thickness insensitivity in fabricating OSC devices, i.e. OSC devices with very thick PCPDT-T interlayers over 50 nm still demonstrated high power conversion efficiencies over 7.1%, which is very compatible to meet the requirement for future roll-to-roll printing.

The antitumor drug, oxaliplatin, induces neuropathic pain, which is resistant to available analgesics, and novel mechanism-based therapies are being evaluated for this debilitating condition. Since activated microglia, impaired serotonergic and noradrenergic neurotransmission and overexpressed sodium channels are implicated in oxaliplatin-induced pain, this in vivo study assessed the effect of minocycline, a microglial activation inhibitor used alone or in combination with ambroxol, a sodium channel blocker, or duloxetine, a serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor, on oxaliplatin-induced tactile allodynia and cold hyperalgesia. To induce neuropathic pain, a single dose (10 mg/kg) of i.p. oxaliplatin was used. The mech. and cold pain thresholds were assessed using mouse von Frey and cold plate tests, resp. On the day of oxaliplatin administration, only duloxetine (30 mg/kg) and minocycline (100 mg/kg) used alone attenuated both tactile allodynia and cold hyperalgesia 1 h and 6 h after administration. Minocycline (50 mg/kg), duloxetine (10 mg/kg) and combined minocycline + duloxetine influenced only tactile allodynia. Seven days after oxaliplatin, tactile allodynia (but not cold hyperalgesia) was attenuated by minocycline (100 mg/kg), duloxetine (30 mg/kg) and combined minocycline and duloxetine. These results indicate a potential usefulness of minocycline used alone or combination with duloxetine in the treatment of oxaliplatin-induced pain.

Ultrafast luminescence (PL) spectroscopy can cleanly resolve excited-state dynamics and coupling to the environment; there is a demand for new methods that combine broadband detection and low backgrounds. A new method, transient grating luminescence spectroscopy (TGPLS), addresses this challenge by exploiting a focusing geometry where ultrafast broadband spectra are transiently diffracted away from the background PL. TGPLS can resolve the complex spectral relaxation observed in conjugated polymer and oligomer solutions, with an essentially flat spectral response throughout the visible region and potentially beyond. The benefits demonstrated using TGPLS could expand access to spectral information, particularly for other multichromophoric and heterogeneous materials where complex spectral relaxation is expected.

A series of polythiophenes (PTn) based on dialkyl-cyclopentadithiophene (CPDT) units alternating with short un-substituted thiophene segments of length n (n being the number of thiophenes) along the chain has been synthesized to control the morphol. of PTn:PCBM blends for solar cell applications via the chem. structure of the polymer rather than via (post) processing conditions. The degree of phase separation in PTn:PCBM blends can be controlled via n, because with increase in n the number of solubilizing side chains per thiophene is reduced. For the most soluble derivative, PT0, we find that PCBM crystallizes first, while for the least soluble version, PT3, polymer aggregation prevails. The most intimately mixed morphol. and best solar cells were obtained for PT2, which exhibits a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of about 1.5% under AM1.5G conditions when mixed with PCBM. Although the final PCE is moderate, the study represents an example of a rational approach towards morphol. control via chem. structure, rather than via processing.
