Lactulose is considered as a prebiotic because it promotes the intestinal proliferation of Lactobacillus acidophilus which is added to various milk products. Moreover, lactulose is used in pharmaceuticals as a gentle laxative and to treat hyperammonemia. This study was aimed at the total synthesis of two Lactulose-derived oligosaccharides: one is 3-O-β-D-galactopyranosyl-D-fructose, D-fructose and β-D-galactose bounded together with β-1,3-glycosidic bound, the other is 1-O-β-D-galactopyranosyl-D-fructose, D-fructose and β-D-galactose bounded together with β-1,1-glycosidic bound, which were accomplished in seven steps from D-fructose and β-D-galactose and every step of yield above 75%. This synthetic route provided a practical and effective synthetic strategy for galacto-oligosaccharides, starting from com. available monosaccharides. Then we evaluated on their prebiotic properties in the search for potential agents of regulating and improving the intestinal flora of human. The result showed that the prebiotic properties of Lactulose-derived oligosaccharides was much better than Lactulose. Among them, 3-O-β-D-galactopyranosyl-D-fructose displayed the most potent activity of proliferation of L. acidophilus.

Preterm birth occurs disproportionately in the USA non-Hispanic Black population. Black women also face disproportionate exposure to certain environmental chems. The goal of this study was to use publicly available toxicogenomic data to identify chem. exposures that may contribute to preterm birth disparities. We tested 19 chems. observed at higher levels in the blood or urine of non-Hispanic Black women compared to non-Hispanic White women. We obtained chem.-gene interactions from the Comparative Toxicogenomics Database and a list of genes involved in preterm birth from the Preterm Birth Database. We tested chems. for enrichment with preterm birth genes using chi-squared tests. We then conducted pathway enrichment anal. for the preterm birth genes using DAVID software and identified chem. impacts on genes involved in these pathways. Genes annotated to all 19 chems. were enriched with preterm birth genes (FDR-adjusted p value < 0.05). Preterm birth enriched chems. that were detected at the highest levels in non-Hispanic Black women included Me mercury, methylparaben, propylparaben, di-Et phthalate, dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene, and bisphenol S. The preterm birth genes were enriched for pathways including “inflammatory response” (FDR-adjusted p value = 3 x 10-19), “aging” (FDR-adjusted p value = 4 x 10-8) and “response to estradiol” (FDR-adjusted p value = 2 x 10-4). Chems. enriched with preterm birth genes impacted genes in all three pathways. This study adds to the body of knowledge suggesting that exposures to environmental chems. contribute to racial disparities in preterm birth and that multiple chems. drive these effects. These chems. affect genes involved in biol. processes relevant to preterm birth such as inflammation, aging, and estradiol pathways.

Herein, organosilicon and Ph phosphorus compounds were synthesized and grafted on the surface of Ti3C2Tx (Ti3C2Tx@BPA@PCL) via in-situ polymerization Then, the FPUF composites were fabricated, combining intrinsic flame retardancy (9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene 10-oxide-diethanolamine: DH-DOPO) (addition amount: 20 wt%) and Ti3C2Tx@BPA@PCL (addition amount: 4 wt%). Attributed to the rigid structure of Ti3C2Tx@BPA@PCL, the tensile strength and compression strength of FPUF showed 24.0% and 253% increase, resp. In addition, anti-fatigue properties of FPUF composites during the cyclical test were dramatically enhanced. In contrast to pure FPUF, 36.1% and 44.0% reductions in peak heat release rate (pHRR) and total heat release (THR) were achieved for the FPUF containing Ti3C2Tx@BPA@PCL and DH-DOPO, the production rate of carbon dioxide (CO2) and carbon oxide (CO) also decreased by 40.3% and 52.1%, resp. FPUF4 showed self-extinguishing behavior, and passed the vertical burning test (VBT). This work provides a facile approach to preparing high-performance FPUF with enhanced mech. property and flame retardancy.

Porous electrodes have been proved with large surface areas and high sensing abilities in electrochem. detection of BPA. However, how to tailor the pore sizes to further improve the sensing performance is still a great challenge. Here, we delicately tailored the diameters of carbon nanofibers (CNFs) by adjusting electrospinning parameters to have optimal mesopore structure for strong adsorption of hemin that has been demonstrated with high electrocatalytic activity for BPA sensing. Benefiting from the optimal mesopores structure of CNFs and the synergistic effect of hemin and CNFs, this hemin@CNFs based sensor achieves an ultrahigh sensitivity of 40.97μA cm-2μM-1, a low detection limit of 3.1 nM and satisfactory recoveries from 90.2% to 104.2% in the direct detection of BPA in liquors. This work offers a promising sensing platform for ultrasensitive monitoring of BPA.
