A review. Resveratrol is a natural polyphenol derived from grapes, berries, red wine, peanuts amongst other fruits and nuts. Beneficial effects such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, hepatoprotective, neuroprotective, cardioprotective, renoprotective, anti-obesity, anti-diabetic, and anti-cancer of resveratrol have been demonstrated by preclin. and clin. research. A possibility is that these therapeutical effects are associated with modulation of the Nrf2 signaling pathway in the following way: resveratrol may potentiate Nrf2 signaling through blockage of Keap1, by means of changing the Nrf2 mediators, its expression and its nuclear translocation. This article reviews the evidence of the Nrf2 modulating hypothesis as a possible mol. mechanism underlying the medicinal properties of resveratrol.

A review. Tumor-suppressive effects of resveratrol have been shown in various types of cancer. However, regulation of tumor microenvironment by resveratrol is still unclear. Recent findings suggest resveratrol can potentiate its tumor-suppressive effect through modulation of the signaling pathways of cellular components (fibroblasts, macrophages and T cells). Also, studies have shown that resveratrol can suppress malignant phenotypes of cancer cells acquired in response to stresses of the tumor microenvironment, such as hypoxia, oxidative stress and inflammation. We discuss the effects of resveratrol on cancer cells in stress environment of tumors as well as interactions between cancer cells and non-cancer cells in this review.

The identification of safe and effective drugs that inhibit tumor invasion and metastasis is required to improve the clin. outcome of patients with colon cancer. The present study aimed to investigate the inhibitory effects and possible mechanisms of action of resveratrol against the invasion and metastasis of colon cancer. AKT1-knockdown SW480 and SW620 colon cancer cells were used to detect the effects of resveratrol on cell invasion and metastasis, as well as changes in the expression of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers and serine/threonine kinase (AKT)/glycogen synthase kinase (GSK)-3beta/Snail signaling pathway-related mols. in vitro. Furthermore, nude mice were inoculated with SW480 cells in the tail vein to establish an in vivo lung metastasis model of colon cancer, to investigate the effects of resveratrol on lung metastasis in colon cancer. The results revealed that resveratrol treatment and AKT1 knockdown significantly inhibited cell migration and invasion in colon cancer, and markedly increased E-cadherin expression and decreased that of N-cadherin, phospho (p)-AKT1, p-GSK-3beta, and Snail in colon cancer both in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, the effects of resveratrol were significantly weaker in the AKT1-knockdown cells. In conclusion, resveratrol may suppress the invasion and metastasis of colon cancer through reversal of EMT via the AKT/GSK-3beta/Snail signaling pathway.

Thapa, Samir Bahadur; Pandey, Ramesh Prasad; Park, Yong Il; Sohng, Jae Kyung published the artcile< Biotechnological advances in resveratrol production and its chemical diversity>, SDS of cas: 501-36-0 , the main research area is chemical diversity; metabolic engineering; microbial production; resveratrol.

The very well-known bioactive natural product, resveratrol (3,5,4′-trihydroxystilbene), is a highly studied secondary metabolite produced by several plants, particularly grapes, passion fruit, white tea, and berries. It is in high demand not only because of its wide range of biol. activities against various kinds of cardiovascular and nerve-related diseases, but also as important ingredients in pharmaceuticals and nutritional supplements. Due to its very low content in plants, multi-step isolation and purification processes, and environmental and chem. hazards issues, resveratrol extraction from plants is difficult, time consuming, impracticable, and unsustainable. Therefore, microbial hosts, such as Escherichia coli, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Corynebacterium glutamicum, are commonly used as an alternative production source by improvising resveratrol biosynthetic genes in them. The biosynthesis genes are rewired applying combinatorial biosynthetic systems, including metabolic engineering and synthetic biol., while optimizing the various production processes. The native biosynthesis of resveratrol is not present in microbes, which are easy to manipulate genetically, so the use of microbial hosts is increasing these days. This review will mainly focus on the recent biotechnol. advances for the production of resveratrol, including the various strategies used to produce its chem. diverse derivatives

A review. Neurol. disorders have been growing in recent years and are highly prevalent globally. Resveratrol (RES) is a natural product from plant sources such as grape skins. This compound has shown biol. activity in many diseases, in particular, those that act on the central nervous system. The mechanism of action and the key points in neurol. disorders were described and show the targeted mechanism of action. Due to the insolubility of this compound; the use of nanotechnol.-based systems has been proposed for the incorporation of RES and RES-loaded nanocarriers have been designed for intranasal administration, oral or parenteral routes to deliver it to the brain. In general, these nanosystems have shown to be effective in many studies, pharmacol. and pharmacokinetic assays, as well as some cell studies. The outcomes show that RES has been reported in human clin. trials for some neurol. diseases, although no studies were performed in humans using nanocarriers, animal and/or cellular models have been reported to show good results regarding therapeutics on neurol. diseases. Thus, the use of this nutraceutical has shown true for neurol. diseases and its loading into nanocarriers displaying good results on the stability, delivery and targeting to the brain.

A review. Resveratrol is the most well-known polyphenolic stilbenoid, present in grapes, mulberries, peanuts, rhubarb, and in several other plants. Resveratrol can play a beneficial role in the prevention and in the progression of chronic diseases related to inflammation such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, neurodegeneration, and cancers among other conditions. Moreover, resveratrol regulates immunity by interfering with immune cell regulation, proinflammatory cytokines’ synthesis, and gene expression. At the mol. level, it targets sirtuin, adenosine monophosphate kinase, nuclear factor- κB, inflammatory cytokines, anti-oxidant enzymes along with cellular processes such as gluconeogenesis, lipid metabolism, mitochondrial biogenesis, angiogenesis, and apoptosis. Resveratrol can suppress the toll-like receptor (TLR) and pro-inflammatory genes’ expression. The antioxidant activity of resveratrol and the ability to inhibit enzymes involved in the production of eicosanoids contribute to its anti-inflammation properties. The effects of this biol. active compound on the immune system are associated with widespread health benefits for different autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases. This review offers a systematic understanding of how resveratrol targets multiple inflammatory components and exerts immune-regulatory effects on immune cells.
