A novel Bi-based crystalline molecular materials Bi(C2O4)(3)(NMP)(2) (Bi-NMP) have successfully synthesized by the reaction of Bi(NO3)(3)center dot 5H(2)O, N-Methylpyrrolidone (NMP) in the solution of methyl alcohol. Structural analysis indicates that the Bi-NMP shows a novel 2D planar structure. The luminescent behavior for the Bi-NMP has been investigated at room temperature. The results have shown that Bi-NMP can be used as a chemical sensor for multifunctional testing such as aliphatic amines and aromatic amines detection, because of its strong fluorescence properties. Cannabis use disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder: The prevalence of comorbidity in veterans of recent conflicts

Aims: Veterans have high rates of cannabis use, and rates of cannabis use disorder (CUD) are rising among this population. These rising rates are particularly true for veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which is common among veterans of recent conflicts, Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, and Operation New Dawn (OEF/OIF/OND). Although prior work has documented links between PTSD and cannabis use, a better understanding of the intersection among CUD, PTSD, and other disorders in real-world clinical practice can inform prevention and treatment efforts. This study examined the prevalence and comorbidities of CUD and PTSD in OFE/OIF/OND veterans. Method: The study analyzed data from the Veterans Affairs Corporate Data Warehouse (2010-2016) for returning war veterans who were diagnosed with CUD (N = 46,268). The study determined prevalence of PTSD, and examined additional differences in comorbidities. Results: The prevalence of a comorbid PTSD diagnosis among OEF/OIF/OND veterans with a CUD diagnosis was 72.3%. Further analysis revealed additional co-occurring disorders. Veterans with a diagnosis of CUD and PTSD were more likely to have a comorbid diagnosis of depression (odds ratio, 1.69; 95% CI, 1.62-1.71), panic disorder (odds ratio; 1.58; 95% CI, 1.43-1.75), alcohol use disorder (odds ratio; 1.30; 95% CI, 1.24-1.35), opioid use disorder (odds ratio; 1.52; 95% CI, 1.43-1.62), and insomnia (odds ratio; 1.74; 95% CI, 1.65-1.84) than veterans without a PTSD diagnosis. Conclusions: Findings highlight that the majority of returning war veterans with CUD are highly complex. Our findings substantiate the need for urgent, comprehensive care for veterans with co-occurring CUD and PTSD, including integrated and transdiagnostic treatment approaches.

The compaction of chromatin fibers has been a topic of controversy since the discovery of chromosomes in the 19th century. Although chromatin fibers were first identified using electron microscopy, the chromatin fibers on the surface of chromosome structures in plants remain unclear due to shrinking and breaking caused by prior chromosome isolation or preparation with alcohol and acid fixation, and critical point drying occurred into dehydration and denatured chromosomal proteins. This study aimed to develop a high-quality procedure for the isolation and preparation of plant chromosomes, maintaining the native chromosome structure, to elucidate the organization of chromatin fibers on the surface of plant chromosomes by electron microscopy. A simple technique to isolate intact barley (Hordeum vulgare) chromosomes with a high yield was developed, allowing chromosomes to be observed with a high-resolution scanning ion microscopy and helium ion microscopy (HIM) imaging technology, based on a scanning helium ion beam. HIM images from the surface chromatin fibers were analyzed to determine the size and alignment of the chromatin fibers. The unit size of the chromatin fibers was 11.6 +/- 3.5 nm and was closely aligned to the chromatin network model. Our findings indicate that compacting the surface structure of barley via a chromatin network and observation via HIM are powerful tools for investigating the structure of chromatin.

Temporal stability of driver injury severity in single-vehicle roadway departure crashes: A random thresholds random parameters hierarchical ordered probit approach

This study examines contributing variables affecting the driver injury-severity in single-vehicle roadway departure crashes. To capture the threshold heterogeneity and unobserved heterogeneity, the random thresholds random parameters hierarchical ordered pro bit (HOPIT) approach is employed using the crash data collected from 2014 to 2017 in the State of North Carolina. Three injury severity levels are considered: severe injury, minor injury, and no injury. Attributes that potentially affect crash severity are examined, including driver, crash, roadway, and environmental characteristics. A series of likelihood ratio tests are conducted to examine the temporal stability of factors across different studied years. The marginal effects of factors in different injury-severity models are compared. Significant temporal instability is found among the studied year periods. The threshold value estimated using the random threshold random parameters HOPIT model is found to be random parameters and determined by specific explanatory variables. Additionally, the effects of some factors (e.g., alcohol, curved roadway, passenger car, SUV, and wet/water surface) on injury severity are relatively stable, while others (e.g., female driver, collector, and clear weather) present temporal unstable effects.
