Tilmicosin (Til), an effective macrolide antibiotic, is widely used against respiratory diseases in livestock; however, its treatment is associated with cardiac tissue impairments. In this study, the ethanolic extract of Moringa oleifera (MO) leaves was investigated at two doses (400 and 800 mg/kg body weight [bw], orally) to determine its role in counteracting the effects of Til treatment (75 mg/kg bw) on the cardiac tissue in rats, exploring the oxidative stress-mediated damage and apoptosis. A high dose of MO ethanolic extract elicits considerable changes in the body weight, reduces the mortality rate, neutralizes the impaired cardiac injury markers, improves antioxidant endpoints (total antioxidant capacity, superoxide dismutase, catalase activity, and reduced glutathione level). Also it attenuates the oxidative stress indexes (total reactive oxygen species, 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine, lipid peroxides [malondialdehyde], and protein carbonyl levels) that are associated with Til injection. The co-administration of MO ethanolic extract with Til considerably modulates the expression of apoptosis pathway-encoding genes (Bcl-2, caspase-3, Bax, p53, apoptosis-inducing factor, and Apaf-1), particularly in the high-dose group. Our results support that the concurrent administration of MO ethanolic extract with Til at a dose of 800 mg/kg bw increases the protective activity of the antioxidant system and delays or slows the pathol. development of cardiotoxicity mediated by Til injection.

Mafu, Lubabalo published the artcileSolvent-free synthesis of novel para-menthane-3,8-diol ester derivatives from citronellal using a polymer-supported scandium triflate catalyst, HPLC of Formula: 42822-86-6, the main research area is citronellal para menthane diol ester derivative solvent free synthesis; polymer supported scandium triflate catalyst acylation; PS-Sc(OTf)3; acylation; diesters; para-menthane-3,8-diol.

The use of natural resources as a chem. feedstock for the synthesis of added-value products is gaining interest; as such we report an environmentally friendly method for the synthesis of para-menthane-3,8-diol from natural citronellal oil in 96% yield, under solvent free aqueous conditions. The acylation of para-menthane-3,8-diol with various acid anhydrides over polymer-supported scandium triflate (PS-Sc(OTf)3) catalyst was subsequently developed, where both hydroxy groups of para-menthane-3,8-diol could be simultaneously acylated under mild reaction conditions to form the corresponding diesters in good yields. The advantages of this method include a simple procedure from natural resources, using solvent-free reaction conditions.

Garboui, Samira S. published the artcileRepellency of MyggA Natural spray (para-menthane-3,8-diol) and RB86 (neem oil) against the tick Ixodes ricinus (Acari: Ixodidae) in the field in east-central Sweden, SDS of cas: 42822-86-6, the main research area is MyggA para menthanediol RB86 azadirachtin neem oil tick repellent.

In the field in south-central Sweden, we tested by randomized, standardized methodol. the potential anti-tick repellent activity of 2 concentrations of MyggA Natural spray (containing PMD) (4.2 and 3.2 g/m2) and one of RB86 (with 70% neem oil containing azadirachtin)(3 g/m2) to host seeking nymphs of Ixodes ricinus. Each substance was applied sep. to 1 m2 cotton flannel cloths. Nymphal ticks on the cloths, pulled over the vegetation, were recorded at 10-m stops. Nymphal numbers recorded differed significantly between treated cloths [4.2 or 3.2 g MyggA Natural spray/m2 and 3 g RB86/m2] and the untreated control (df = 3, χ2 = 112.74). Nymphal numbers also differed significantly among collectors (df = 3, χ2 = 15.80). Repellency of treated cloths, i.e., 4.2 or 3.2 g MyggA Natural spray/m2 and 3 g RB 86/m2 declined from day 0 (i.e. the day of impregnation) to day 3 after impregnation from 77 to 24%, 58 to 16%, and 47 to 0.5%, resp. This study suggests that all 3 treatments have significant repellent activities against I. ricinus nymphs.

Elmhalli, Fawzeia H. published the artcileAcaricidal effects of Corymbia citriodora oil containing para-menthane-3,8-diol against nymphs of Ixodes ricinus (Acari: Ixodidae), SDS of cas: 42822-86-6, the main research area is Corymbia oil menthane diol acaricide Ixodes.

The toxicity of para-menthane-3,8-diol (PMD), the main arthropod-repellent compound in the oil of the lemon eucalyptus, Corymbia citriodora, was evaluated against nymphs of Ixodes ricinus using five methods (A-E) of a contact toxicity bioassay. Mortality rates were estimated by recording numbers of dead nymphs at 30 min intervals during the first 5 h after the start of exposure and at longer intervals thereafter. The mortality rate increased with increasing concentration of PMD and duration of exposure with a distinct effect after 3.5 h. From the results obtained by methods A, C and E, the LC50 range was 0.035-0.037 mg PMD/cm2 and the LC95 range was 0.095-0.097 mg PMD/cm2 at 4 h of exposure; the LT50 range was 2.1-2.8 h and the LT95 range was 3.9-4.2 h at 0.1 mg PMD/cm2. To determine the duration of toxic activity of PMD, different concentrations (0.002, 0.01, 0.1 mg PMD/cm2) were tested and mortality was recorded at each concentration after 1 h; thereafter new ticks were tested. This test revealed that the lethal activity of PMD remained for 24 h but appeared absent after 48 h. Thus, PMD is toxic to nymphs of I. ricinus and may be useful for tick control.

Limpanuparb, Taweetham published the artcileAn in silico investigation of menthol metabolism, Related Products of alcohols-buliding-blocks, the main research area is menthol metabolism signaling glucuronic acid.

Prevalence of mentholated products for consumption has brought great importance to studies on menthol’s metabolic pathways to ensure safety, design more potent derivatives, and identify therapeutic benefits. Proposed pathways of (-)-menthol metabolism based on metabolites found exptl. in previous works by Yamaguchi, Caldwell & Farmer, Madyastha & Srivatsan and Hiki et al. were not in agreement. This in silico approach is based on the three in vivo studies and aims to resolve the discrepancies. Reactions in the pathways are conjugation with glucuronic acid/sulfate, oxidation to alc., aldehyde & carboxylic acid, and formation of a four-membered/five-membered ring. Gas-phase structures, standard Gibbs energies and SMD solvation energies at B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) level were obtained for 102 compounds in the pathways. This study provides a more complete picture of menthol metabolism by combining information from three exptl. studies and filling missing links in previously published pathways.

Cheng, Haiyang published the artcileCyclization of citronellal to p-menthane-3,8-diols in water and carbon dioxide, Category: alcohols-buliding-blocks, the main research area is citronellal cyclization menthanediol green chem.

A clean process has been developed for the synthesis of p-menthane-3,8-diols from cyclization of citronellal in CO2-H2O medium without any additives. With the addition of CO2, the reaction rate could be enhanced about 6 times for the cyclization of citronellal in H2O, because CO2 dissolved into water and formed carbonic acid inducing an increase of the acidity. Although, the reaction conversion in CO2-H2O is slightly lower compared to that obtained with sulfuric acid as catalyst, CO2-H2O could replace the sulfuric acid at a relative higher reaction temperature The reaction kinetics studies showed that the hydration of isopulegol to p-menthane-3,8-diols is a reversible reaction. The equilibrium constant and the maximum equilibrium yield obtained in CO2-H2O at a range of CO2 pressures are similar to that with sulfuric acid catalyst.

Distichochlamys citrea M.F. Newman (commonly known as Black Ginger) is an endemic plant to Vietnam and has been extensively exploited by folk medication for treatments of infection-related diseases and diabetes. In this work, its rhizomes were subjected to fractionated extraction, phytochem. examination, evaluation of antioxidant effect by DDPH free radical neutralization, and inhibitory activity toward α-glucosidase. The compositional components were subjected to in silico screening, including d. functional theory calculation, mol. docking simulation, physicochem. anal., and pharmacokinetic regression. In the trials, EtOAc fraction is found as the bioactive part of most effectiveness, regarding both antioxidant effect (IC50 = 90.27 μg mL-1) and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity (IC50 = 115.75 μg mL-1). Chem. determination reveals there are 13 components of its composition DFT-based calculations find no abnormal constraints in their structures. Docking-based simulation provides order of inhibitory effectiveness: 3-P53341 > 12-P53341 > 7-P53341 > 4-P53341 > 11-P53341 > 10-P53341. QSARIS-based investigations implicate their biocompatibility. Yang, Chihae published the artcileDo Similar Structures Have Similar No Observed Adverse Effect Level (NOAEL) Values? Exploring Chemoinformatics Approaches for Estimating NOAEL Bounds and Uncertainties, Related Products of alcohols-buliding-blocks, the main research area is adverse NOAEL chemoinformatic uncertainty.

Determination of the no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) of a substance is an important step in safety and regulatory assessments. Application of conventional in silico strategies, for example, quant. structure-activity relationship (QSAR) models, to predict NOAEL values is inherently problematic. Whereas QSAR models for well-defined toxicity endpoints such as Ames mutagenicity or skin sensitization can be developed from mechanistic knowledge of mol. initiating events and adverse outcome pathways, QSAR is not appropriate for predicting a NOAEL value, a concentration at which “”no effect”” is observed This paper presents a chemoinformatics approach and explores how it can be further refined through the incorporation of toxicity endpoint-specific information to estimate confidence bounds for the NOAEL of a target substance, given exptl. determined NOAEL values for one or more suitable analogs. With a sufficiently large NOAEL database, we analyze how a difference in NOAEL values for pairs of structures depends on their pairwise similarity, where similarity takes both structural features and physicochem. properties into account. The width of the estimate NOAEL confidence interval is proportional to the uncertainty. Using the new threshold of toxicol. concern (TTC) database enriched with antimicrobials, examples are presented to illustrate how uncertainty decreases with increasing analog quality and also how NOAEL bounds estimation can be significantly improved by filtering the full database to include only substances that are in structure categories relevant to the target and analog.
