Arylation of carbonyls, one of the most common approaches toward alcohols, has received tremendous attention, as alcohols are important feedstocks and building blocks in organic synthesis. Despite great progress, there is still a great gap to develop an ideal arylation method featuring mild conditions, good functional group tolerance, and readily available starting materials. We now show that electrochemical arylation can fill the gap. By taking advantage of synthetic electrochemistry, commercially available aldehydes (ketones) and benzylic alcohols can be readily arylated to provide a general and scalable access to structurally diverse alcohols (97 examples, >10 gram-scale). More importantly, convergent paired electrolysis, the ideal but challenging electrochemical technology, was employed to transform low-value alcohols into more useful alcohols. Detailed mechanism study suggests that two plausible pathways are involved in the redox neutral alpha-arylation of benzylic alcohols.

Direct catalytic transformation of chlorosilanes into organosilicon compounds remains challenging due to difficulty in cleaving the strong Si-Cl bond(s). We herein report the palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of chlorosilanes with organoaluminum reagents. A combination of [Pd(C3H5)Cl](2) and DavePhos ligand catalyzed the selective methylation of various dichlorosilanes 1, trichlorosilanes 5, and tetrachlorosilane 6 to give the corresponding monochlorosilanes.

The dendritic ligand 2, 4, 6-tris (di-4-chlorobenzamido)-1, 3, 5-triazine3supported Zn/Cu (1:1) 4a, 2, 4, 6-tris (di-4-chlorobenzamido)-1, 3, 5-triazine3supported Zn/Cu (1:2) 4b, and 2, 4, 6-tris (di-4-chlorobenzamido)-1, 3, 5-triazine3supported Zn/Cu (2:1) 4cbimetallic nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized successfully by following the co-complexation route in which the desired molar ratio of Zn and Cu was confirmed by the obtained results of electron diffraction X-ray and X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy analysis. The average particle size of these NPs was detected as 15-20 nm from transmission electron microscopy investigations and agglomerate spherical surface morphology was found by scanning electron microscopy, whereas the face-centered cubic structure of these bimetallic NPs was observed by X-ray diffraction assessment. Also, the formation of the ligand was proven by IR,(HNMR)-H-1,(CNMR)-C-13, and elemental analysis. Remarkably, the chemoselective oxidation of aromatic alcohols to the corresponding aldehydes or ketones at 25 min and reduction of aromatic nitro substituents to the corresponding aniline at 20 min in aqueous medium at room temperature have been studied by the most effective catalyst Zn/Cu (2:1) 4cNPs among other molar ratios of Zn/Cu (1:1)4aand Zn/Cu (1:2) 4bNPs under atmospheric air (O-2) conditions with good to excellent yields. This green catalytic approach of Zn/Cu (2:1) 4cNPs catalytic was easily recovered by simple filtration and recycled at least five consecutive runs without a noticeable loss of its catalytic effectiveness.

A dehydrogenative coupling of N-uracil amidines with (hetero)aryl methanols has been developed, allowing for the facile synthesis of a broad range of structurally diverse pyrimidouracils. By applying [RuCl2(p-cymene)](2)/Cs2CO3 as an efficient catalytic system, the easily available, cheap (hetero)aryl methanols were firstly employed for oxidative insertion/C-H amination into the N-uracil amidines, providing highly functionalized pyrimido[4,5-d]pyrimidine-2,4-diones. Due to the better stability of alcohols than aldehydes, this synthetic protocol is applicable to a broad range of alcoholic substrates and does not required any protection during the whole preparation process. The presented protocol has the potential to prepare valuable products which cannot be accessed presently or extremely arduous to procure by following regular procedure. Hence, this is a remarkably improved protocol compared with the existing methodologies. The overall reaction sequence is an effective oxidation-imination-cyclization tandem process catalyzed by ruthenium catalyst.

Ketones are of great importance in synthesis, biology, and pharmaceuticals. This paper reports an iridium complexes-catalyzed cross-coupling of alcohols via hydrogen borrowing, affording a series of alpha-alkylated ketones in high yield (86 %-95 %) and chemoselectivities (>99 : 1). This methodology has the advantages of low catalyst loading (0.1 mol%) and environmentally benign water as the solvent. Studies have shown the amount of base has a great impact on chemoselectivities. Meanwhile, deuteration experiments show water plays an important role in accelerating the reduction of the unsaturated ketones intermediates. Remarkably, a gram-scale experiment demonstrates this methodology of iridium-catalyzed cross-coupling of alcohols has potential application in the practical synthesis of alpha-alkylated ketones.

The employment of easily affordable ruthenium(II)-complexes as pre-catalysts in the transfer hydrogenation of carbonyl compounds in deep eutectic media is described for the first time. The eutectic mixture tetrabutylammonium bromide/formic acid = 1/1 (TBABr/HCOOH = 1/1) acts both as reaction medium and hydrogen source. The addition of a base is required for the process to occur. An extensive optimization of the reaction conditions has been carried out, in terms of catalyst loading, type of complexes, H-2-donors, reaction temperature and time. The combination of the dimeric complex [RuCl(p-cymene)-mu-Cl](2) (0.01-0.05 eq.) and the ligand dppf (1,10-ferrocenediyl-bis(diphenylphosphine)ferrocene) in 1/1 molar ratio has proven to be a suitable catalytic system for the reduction of several and diverse aldehydes and ketones to their corresponding alcohols under mild conditions (40-60 degrees C) in air, showing from moderate to excellent tolerability towards different functional groups (halogen, cyano, nitro, phenol). The reduction of imine compounds to their corresponding amine derivatives was also studied. In addition, the comparison between the results obtained in TBABr/HCOOH and in organic solvents suggests a non-innocent effect of the DES medium during the process. (C) 2021 Elsevier Ltd. Direct conversion of carboxylic acids to ureas, carbamates, and thiocarbamates in a single pot via Curtius rearrangement is accomplished. One recently established coupling reagent, Ethyl-2-cyano-2-(2-nitrophenylsulfonyloximino)acetate (ortho-NosylOXY, I), is successfully used for the racemization free synthesis of ureas, di-peptidyl ureas, and carbamates with moderate to good yield (82-69%). This single-pot hassle-free procedure works with a diverse range of N-protecting groups Fmoc, Boc, and Cbz. Various amine, including aromatic, methyl esters of amino acids, t-butylamine, alcohols, and thiols, are used as nucleophiles. A detailed NMR-based mechanism study is incorporated here. Racemization suppression, easy removal of by-products, and less waste generation make this methodology useful.

The recombination of photogenerated carriers seriously restricts their utilization efficiency in photocatalysis. Herein, surface oxygen vacancies (SOVs) were constructed in Pd-Bi2MoO6 interface to bridge ultra-low loading Pd cluster and Bi2MoO6 semiconductor (Pd/BMO-SOVs). It was found SOVs in Pd/Bi2MoO6-x serve as Electron Bridge to bridge ultra-low loading Pd cluster and Bi2MoO6-x, thus tremendously enhance utilization efficiency of photoexcited carriers and ultra-low loading Pd active sites for blue LED driven selective oxidation reaction. The Pd(0.05)/Bi2MoO6-SOVs exhibited 57.8 % conversion for selection oxidation of benzyl which are 6.5, 3.3 and 2.1 times higher than pristine Bi2MoO6, Bi2MoO6-x and Pd(0.05)/Bi2MoO6. Combined with theoretical calculations, SOVs was proposed as Electron Bridge to transfer photogenerated electrons from Bi2MoO6-x to ultra-low loading Pd clusters, thus greatly boosting separation and utilization efficiency of photogenerated electron-hole pairs.

Two high-resolution mass spectrometers (HRMS) with different analyzer technology, Orbitrap and hybrid quadrupole time-of-flight (QTOF), were compared with a low-resolution mass spectrometer, quadrupole, to analyse a set of 35 difficult allergens. These difficult allergens are commonly coeluted fragrance allergens with matrix compounds, using standard gas chromatography-mass spectrometer conditions, from the extended list of the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS). Although the fundamental role of chromatographic separation has been demonstrated many times, the aim of this work is to demonstrate the benefits of high-resolution. The added value of high-resolution was illustrated in both a qualitative and a quantitative way. For qualitative aspect, the high resolution extracted ion signals of these two detectors were compared with the low-resolution extracted ion signals. About 50% of the coeluted cases observed with the low-resolution detector are easily resolved by the two high-resolution detectors. For the quantitative aspect, an accuracy profile methodology and a performance metric were used to propose an overall evaluation. The Orbitrap mass spectrometer demonstrated a better overall performance, while the QTOF presented similar or even lower quantification performances than the quadrupole on the set of analysed fragrances.

A mild and metal-free protocol for visible-light induced intramolecular radical cyclization of N-allyl(propargyl)-2-bromo-2,2-difluoro-N-arylacetamide has been developed. This strategy showed excellent regioselectivity and simple operation to synthesize 4-substituted 3,3-difluoro-gamma-lactams with a broad substrate scope. Moreover, mechanistic studies revealed that this transformation proceeded through a cascade radical-type cyclization and hydrogen atom transfer process with PMDETA as a hydrogen-atom donor.
