The mixture was stirred for 1.5 hours then filtered through a pad of silica and rinsed with further dichloromethane (300 mL). The solvent was removed under reduced pressure to give 2-cyclobutylcarbaldehyde (10.0 g, contains residual dichloromethane) that was used without further purification.
