The residue was purified via silica gel chromatography (PE:EtOAc = 25:1) to obtain 2-[2-(1,1,2,2,2-pentafluoroethoxy)ethoxy]ethoxymethylbenzene (2.5 g, 31% yield) as a light yellow liquid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) d 7.36- 7.24 (m, 5H), 4.56 (s, 2H), 4.17- 4.11 (m, 2H), 3.76- 3.72 (m, 2H), 3.71- 3.65 (m, 2H), 3.65- 3.60 (m, 2H). 19F NMR (376 MHz, CDCl3) d -90.77 (s), -86.02 (s).
