The efficient and environmental friendliness procedure for the synthesis of isoxazol-5(4H)-ones was introduced. Salicylic acid was used as an inexpensive, easy to handle and safe catalyst for the synthesis of title compounds 3-Substituted-4-arylmethylideneisoxazol-5(4H)-ones were obtained from readily available aryl/heteroaryl aldehydes and β-keto esters via the cyclocondensation reaction without using thermal, microwave or ultrasound conditions.
