The antioxidant activity of hydroquinone (I) was compared with that of 43 I derivatives The neg. effect of 2,5- and 2,6-substitution was confirmed. Increased activity is found with 2-alkyl I derivatives, with 2,6-di-tert-Bu I derivatives in which the 4-OH group is etherified or acetylated, and with 2-tert-Bu- and 2-tert-octyl-4-methoxyphenols.
