New monodentate phosphite ligands have been developed from axially chiral biphenols, which show excellent enantioselectivity in the Rh(I)-catalyzed hydrogenation of di-Me itaconate. The new chiral ligand system is suitable to create libraries and possesses fine-tuning capability.
