Here, the N-carbonylimidazoles enable catalytic chemodivergent aniline or alc. acylation in the presence of pyridinium ions or 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU), was reported. Both acylation reactions display high and broad chemoselectivity for the target group. Unprecedented levels of chemoselectivity were observed in the DBU-catalyzed esterification: A single esterification product was obtained from a mol. containing primary aniline, alc., phenol, secondary amide, and N-H indole groups.
