Example 15 (Table 1, entry 8 and Scheme 11): Preparation of methyl 3-[(2-bromoethyl)- 2-[(methylsulfonyloxy)ethyl]amino]-2,6-dinitrobenzoate (27b); A solution of methyl 3- chloro-2,6-dinitrobenzoate (25) (1.15 g, 5.0 mmol) in dry DMF (10 mL) was treated with aziridineethanol (1.3 g, 15.0 mmol) and LiBr (4.35 g, 50 mmol)and stirred at room temperature for 6 h. The mixture was diluted with brine (40 mL) and extracted with EtOAc (2×60 mL). The combined organic fractions were washed with brine dried and concentrated under reduced pressure.
