Researchers who often do experiments know that organic synthesis is a process of preparing more complex target molecules from simple raw materials through one or more chemical reactions. A solution of 4-methoxy-2,3,6-trimethylbenzenesulfonyl chloride (2.29 g, 9.19 mmole) in THF (30 ml) was added dropwise at 0 C. to a solution of 2-methylaminoethanol (0.95 ml, 11.8 mmole) and triethylamine (5 ml) in THF (15 ml). The mixture was then stirred for 5 hours at RT, concentrated by evaporation in vacuo, and the residue was taken up in NaHCO3 solution and extracted with ethyl acetate (3×30 ml). The combined organic phases were dried with Na2SO4 and concentrated by evaporation in vacuo. Yield: 2.38 g, 90%.
