General procedure: In a 25 mL round bottomed flask were placed 0.1 mol % of copper(I) catalyst, 1 mmol of alcohol, 1 mmol of amine, 0.2 mmol of KOH and 2 mL of toluene. The reaction flask was heated at 100 C for 12 h in an oil bath. Upon completion (as monitored by TLC), the reaction mixture was cooled at ambient temperature, H2O (3 mL) was added and the organic layer was extracted with CH2Cl2 (3 10 mL). The combined organic layers were dried with magnesium sulphate and concentrated. The crude product was purified by column chromatography (ethyl acetate/hexane).
