A solution of diisopropyl azodicarboxylate (2.25 g) in THF (5 mL) was added dropwise thereto over 10 min, and the mixture was stirred for 17 hr. The reaction mixture was allowed to warm to room temperature, and concentrated. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography [eluent; hexane:ethyl acetate=19:1–>3:1 (volume ratio)] to give the title compound (668 mg, yield 32percent) as a white solid. 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) delta: 2.65 (2 H, qt, J=10.5, 6.6 Hz), 3.89 (3 H, s), 4.25 (2 H, t, J=6.6 Hz), 6.92 (2 H, d, J=8.9 Hz), 8.00 (2 H, d, J=9.0 Hz).
