Step 2: 3,5-Dimethylbenzyl 4-((tert-butoxycarbonyl)amino)piperidine-1-carboxylate To a stirred solution of (3,5-dimethylphenyl)methanol (1.020 g, 7.49 mmol) in DMF (5 mL) at RT was added CU (1.214 g, 7.49 mmol). The reaction mixture was heated at 50 C. for 20 hrs. Tert-butyl piperidin-4-ylcarbamate (1.5 g, 7.49 mmol) was added and the reaction mixture stirred at 50 C. for 4 hrs. The mixture was diluted with EtOAc and washed with a saturated solution of sodium bicarbonate, brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure.
