Dissolve 1- (3-METHYLPHENYL)-1-ETHANOL (1.36 g, 10 mmol) in dry toluene. Cool to 0 C and add DPPA (diphenylphosphoryl azide, 3.3 g, 12 mmol) followed by 1,8- diazabicyclo [5.4. 0] undec-7-ene (DBU, 1. 8 mL, 12 mmol).
