3-Amino-7-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one (3) (0.56 g, 31 mmol) and 2,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde (0.51 g, 31 mmol) were dissolved in absolute EtOH (10 mL) and refluxed for 2 h, during which time a precipitate formed.
